FIRE / SPILLAGE IN MARINA

Drills and safety procedures have now been collated and are available in Office. Drill to be set down for later in 2017

LEASE NEGOTIATIONS

Peter Buitenhuis advised that there have been further discussions with Bass Coast Shire Council and noted what matters we need address in negotiations with the other lease stake holders. Further discussions to take place.

MARINA SUBCOMMITTEE

De-silting / Sheet Piling: Plans by George Reek tabled and suggestions by Geoff Shawcroft considered. Due to expected costs exceeding $25,000, any approval needs be given at an Annual General Meeting. The Marina Subcommittee recommendations and cost/benefits were considered. The Committee sought more specific costings. Bass Coast Council approval is required. Derrick Kershaw will contact the Planning Department at Bass Coast Council for an onsite meeting for general discussion.

A broken power connection on the north arm has been replaced; and we are awaiting a faulty switch replacement part

We are seeking a replacement light for the front lead light

We are seeking a replacement gate closer for the north arm gate

The Sailability Dinghy Shed has finally been issued a building permit and the components have been ordered. A small working bee will be organised to re-align the pipes from the maintenance yard interceptor before the slab is poured

SOCIAL SUBCOMMITTEE REPORT

The Easter event was very successful, with the Easter Bunny being a smash hit with the kids – thanks to a suited Commodore! The Dinner Dance will be held on June 3. (UPDATE: the Dinner Dance has been cancelled)

Fishing competition for season finishes May 13

TRAINING OFFICER’S REPORT

VHF radio course to be held on Sunday, July 16, 2017.

Power boat course: Western Port Yacht Club is intending to conduct two 2-day Power Boat Handling courses over the next few months, and we hope to offer members the opportunity to be involved

BOATING SECRETARY’S REPORT

Unfortunately, some events were cancelled due to bad weather; however we had a vibrant season

CLUB MERCHANDISE

John Baragwanath has made available a wider range of club merchandise, including new burgees

WEBSITE

It is now linked to Facebook – we now have a completely new official NYS Facebook page – search for Newhaven Yacht Squadron Inc

We have been having trouble making the Buy and Sell website page work.  The website designer is working on this. (UPDATE: the Buy & Sell page is now operating)

SAILABILITY REPORT

The 2016/17 program is now complete.  A total of 7 programs were run over 4 days involving a total of 55 participants of varying levels of ability, 19 carers, and 2 parents. 24 NYS member volunteers participated involving 84 attendances. All participants (and many of their carers) experienced boating for the first time and had a great day. Thank you to all the members who volunteered their time and vessels.
