SAILING SUBCOMMITTEE REPORT

Matt Draper has just won the Australian Impulse Championships sailed in South Australia. He entered on behalf of Newhaven Yacht Squadron, and gained the incredible results of 6 firsts and 2 seconds – scoring much better than a World Champion and numerous National and State Champions

Squadron members, Chris Wilson and Geoff Graham will be competing in the 2018 Melbourne to Osaka Double-Handed Yacht Race which is due to start in Port Phillip Bay in March 2018. We wish them luck, and will be following their progress

MOTORBOATS & ANGLING SUBCOMMITTEE REPORT

The Kids Fun Day including Fishing in the Marina on Saturday, January 6 was an excellent event. We had 8 families with 17 kids and 18 adults. Thank you to Rowan Draper, Garry Richards, and Colin Willis, who showed us how to rig our rods and bait the hooks

MARINA SUBCOMMITTEE REPORT

A representative from Bellingham Marine Enterprises recently carried out an inspection of the Centre and South Arms. He stated that the pontoon sections were in good order given their age. He advised that the main risk is the longevity of the pylons. The will be de-rusted and re-painted after Easter

Proposed sheet piling: a marine engineer will be engaged to carry out soil analysis work

COMMUNICATION & PROMOTION REPORT

Due to circumstances beyond our control, we are unsure if the summer edition of the Quarterly magazine will eventuate. We will do our best to make it happen

SAFETY OFFICER’S REPORT

Parks Victoria will be approached seeking them to dredge and deepen the marina entrance

SOCIAL SUBCOMMITTEE REPORT

A BBQ will be held every Saturday night Happy Hour until the end of February. Information on the Squadron website (http://www.nys.org.au/events/saturday-night-happy-hour-bbqs/)

The Subcommittee is investigating getting new tables for the outside balcony

GENERAL BUSINESS

Election of vacant Committee position of Training Officer: Cheree Dyson was approved to fill this position until October. Cheree has volunteered to assist with the publication of the Quarterly magazine

The NBN will be connected soon

Lease negotiations: because of a change in Bass Coast Shire staffing, a final decision is yet to be made

The re-introduction of the Officer Of the Day model that was operating some years ago was well received by Squadron members – and members of the public. Committee members were rostered on during the December-January period. It is hoped that this service will be continued throughout the boating season. Any member who would like to volunteer is asked to contact Alen Garrett
