Social Report – November, 2016

Sunday 20th November, 2016

Hi fellow members of this great club.

The social scene has been going on quietly in the background since Kon moved from his position on the Committee.  I spoke to Kon at the working bee and he is fit and well.

Cup day came and went; and what a great day was had by all.  The Social Subcommittee and the volunteers did a fantastic job setting up and running the day, with everyone attending having a great time.  Thanks also to our Bar Manager, Collin Willis, who made sure there were plenty of cool drinks available from the bar.
We started the event off at 10.00 a.m. with the first race at 10.40 a.m.  Thanks to Annalisa for sending me through the paperwork used in previous years, which got this year’s event off to a fine start.  Sweeps gained considerable support, with all races well covered during the day.  Special thanks to John Baragwanath who managed the finance all day.  We had around 50 members and friends in attendance, the big TV going, and plenty of vocal support for the runners.  The Social Subcommittee fashion judges awarded Ray Frith best dressed male, with his good lady wife Margaret winning best dressed female.  Denise Pearson won best hat (female), with honorable mentions by the judges for the effort all attendees put in.  It was a great day and we are looking forward to next year, bigger and better.

Christmas dinner and New Year’s Eve are coming up with preparations well under way.  We have booked Big Al for the Christmas Dinner entertainment and our meal through local caterers.  The cost is $50 per person – covering the meal and entertainment.  The bar will be open (or you can bring BYO).  Prices have been reviewed in the bar with significant savings on purchases available (saves bringing that pesky esky).

New Year’s Eve is again on with BYO food, etc (the bar will also be open).  We have booked the Back Dated band and the cost is $15 per person.  They are looking forward to joining us again and they will sure get the joint jumping.

Flyers are up for both events, with bookings through our new Social Secretary, Helen McCrimmin at

Hope to see you at both events.

Tom Rawlings
Acting Social Secretary
