9:00 am
Westernport Yacht Club

Earlier this year Peter Donaldson ran a Short Range Operator/Marine Radio Operators Course at NYS.  For those who missed this excellent course, please find attached information provided by Westernport Yacht Club at Balnarring.

Enrolments open for a Short Range Operator/Marine Radio Operators course:

Enrolments are now open for people aged 16 and over to participate in a one day program to learn to operate a Short Range marine radio. This program prepares participants for the Office of Maritime Communications (OMC) exam which is also conducCheerted on the day of the program The course will be held at the Club on Saturday, 24 November.

People who pass the exam successfully are then issued with the licence by the OMC. Further details about the official process can be found here: http://www.amc.edu.au/industry/omc/certificates

National and international systems exist to provide search and rescue assistance to ships in distress. Using the correct radio protocols and procedures ensures these systems work effectively. Holding a Short Range Operator radio licence is a legal requirement when using a marine radio for any boating or boating related communications, including supporting the Club’s Sailing School and racing programs.

The Club is not charging for the program but there are costs that the participants pay directly to the OMC for purchasing and delivery of the handbook prior to the program ($19.50) and an application fee ($83) for their exam to be processed on the day of the program. There may also be an additional cost of arranging for a Licence photo to be taken at the Post Office or Pharmacist if you do not have a spare photo suitable for a licence.

The program will run from 09:00 to 15:00 on 24 November. Please RSVP to Tracey Swadling at puddleduck117@gmail.com by 14 November
